Care Study .
The Care Study is a written assessment that evaluates a candidate’s ability to apply the nursing process in real patient care. It is usually based on a client encountered during clinical placement. Candidates are expected to:
1. Introduction
• Brief background of the client (age, sex, diagnosis, reason for admission).
2. Patient History and Assessment
• Comprehensive health history (presenting complaint, past medical history, family/social history).
• Physical examination findings.
• Relevant investigations and results.
3. Nursing Diagnoses
• Identification of actual and potential health problems using NANDA-approved statements.
4. Planning
• Setting SMART objectives (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound).
• Prioritization of patient needs.
5. Implementation
• Nursing interventions carried out to meet the objectives (independent, dependent, and collaborative).
6. Evaluation
• Assessing outcomes against objectives.
• Modifying care where necessary.
7. Conclusion and Recommendations
• Summary of the care provided.
• Suggestions for continuity of care at discharge.
Duration: Usually spread over a clinical posting period; submission deadline is determined by the NMC.
